Mebde WestBakoko quarter population besiege AES Sonel office. The population stormed AES SONEL offices in Limbe after going for a week without electric power owing to a fault along the main line that supplies the Bakoko quarters in the night of July 18.
The quarter head with a few other persons had lodged a report about the incident at the AES SONEL office the following day, followed by a similar report filed by another concerned resident of the area on July 20. Despite the complaints, AES SONEL did not react as expected until July 26 when the Bakoko population decided to march down to the power utility supply and confront the officials.
The population is said to have blocked access into the yard before the officials came out to hear their problems. A team of technicians were immediately sent to the site while the population remained there. The DO of Limbe, Jean Paul Foe Vital, upon hearing of the palaver, had also descended to the AES SONEL office.
He later drove to Bakoko quarters area where the AES SONEL technicians were trouble-shooting. They eventually replaced the damaged cable measuring some 300 metres and some old poles along the same line.
